Portugal - Labour minister defers 2027 minimum wage decision to social dialogue - August 31, 2026

The Labour Minister said that any increase of the 2027 minimum wage beyond what had already been agreed would depend entirely on consensus reached through Social Concertation, the country's tripartite dialogue forum involving Government, unions and employers. The Government would prefer an upward revision but, without an agreement among the social partners, the minimum wage would simply remain at the previously committed level. The statement came as unions and employers remained sharply divided, with CGTP union demanding an immediate rise to € 1,050, UGT union arguing for € 1,000 by 2027, and employers’ organisations resisting any change beyond the € 970 figure already on the table.
