Portugal - Government scraps plan to force salary disclosure in job advertisements - August 31, 2026

The Government confirmed that companies will not be legally required to disclose salary information in job advertisements, despite the EU Pay Transparency Directive that gave member states room to go further. Under the Government’s proposed legislation, candidates will only be entitled to salary details "before the contract is signed," rather than in the job posting itself or before an interview, as unions had pushed for. The article noted that 87% of workers say they prefer to see salary ranges disclosed upfront in job ads, yet the Government chose the least transparent option permitted under the EU directive’s flexible wording, prioritising employer confidentiality over candidate transparency.
