Poland - Teachers’ union protests for higher wages - August 31, 2026

The Polish Teachers' Union (ZNP) confirmed plans for a demonstration outside the Prime Minister's Chancellery in Warsaw on 31 August 2026, according to a report published on 27 July 2026, warning that a strike could follow once the new school year begins if the Government fails to act. The union is demanding a systemic wage increase tied to the national average salary, having grown frustrated with a series of small annual raises, most recently just 3%, that unions say fail to offset inflation. The Ministry of Education had requested a 10.3% increase to teacher base salaries in its 2027 budget proposal, but the Government rejected the request outright, citing budget constraints.
