Poland - Sulphur mine workers go on strike - September 30, 2026
Workers at Grupa Azoty Siarkopol, a sulphur mining and chemical company with more than 600 employees, have voted overwhelmingly for strike action. In a strike referendum held on 10–11 September, turnout exceeded 77%, and 98% of those voting backed a strike. The collective dispute, led by Solidarność union, has been running since 11 May 2026. The union has three main demands: a PLN 1,000 (€ 228) gross increase in basic pay, full reinstatement of the company collective agreement including suspended benefits, and payment of benefits still owed under an agreement from November 2024. According to the union, wages have not been raised for three years despite high inflation.
