Norway - Agreement for private kindergartens averts strike - September 30, 2026

On 29 September, Fagforbundet, the Union of Education Norway (Utdanningsforbundet) and Delta reached an agreement in mediation with PBL, the association of private kindergartens. Without an agreement, around 1,130 employees in 78 kindergartens in 12 municipalities would have gone on strike from 30 September. The agreed wage growth is in line with the “frontfag", the benchmark for all other wage agreements in the country. Central increases, effective from 1 May 2026, range from NOK 16,700 (€1.550) for assistants to NOK 27,900 (€2.590) for specialist staff. The unions had insisted that employees should not have to pay towards their pensions to get the same pay rise as others.
