Netherlands - Rush hour transport strike against welfare cuts - June 30, 2026
A three-hour strike by public transport workers hit commuters travelling to work on the morning of 24 June. Train, bus, tram and metro staff started work at 8 am, leading to the cancellation of early morning services across the country. Train cleaners also held an all-day strike, so trains that are running were not cleaned. The FNV union called the strike to protest against the Government’s plans to raise the retirement age faster and make € 6.8 billion of cuts to social security.
