Netherlands - More strikes set for September over social security cuts - August 31, 2026

Thousands more workers are set to strike in September against the Government’s planned social security cuts. A major national public transport action on 9 September is now being joined by construction workers, housing corporation employees, auto mechanics, installers, furniture makers, and metalworkers from 4 September through 11 September, the FNV union announced. Overall, the strikes are set to affect public transport, ports, hospitals, government offices, care, and education, among other spheres. The union protests against the intention of the Government to cut spending on the unemployment and disability insurance schemes.
