Netherlands - Cabinet scraps social security cuts and unions suspend all strikes - September 30, 2026
On 29 September, the minority cabinet announced that the planned cuts to social security are definitively off the table. The decision was part of adjustments to the budgets and Tax Plan following talks with opposition parties, whose support the cabinet needs to pass the ministry budgets. In response, FNV, CNV and VCP unions said in a joint statement that they are suspending all planned actions and strikes. In recent months, workers had struck, among other places in public transport, against plans to cut the maximum duration of unemployment benefits to one year.
