Netherlands - 7% higher pay in university medical centers - January 31, 2026
After three months of tough negotiations a collective agreement was reached for the university medical centers (UMCs). Unions FNV, CNV and NU'91, and the employers’ organization UMCNL agreed to a 7% salary increase, among other things. Wages will increase by 7% in two steps: 3.5% on 1 July 2026, and 3.5% on 1 May 2027. The irregular hours allowance for Saturday mornings will be included in the collective agreement. It will increase to 47% between 8:00 AM and 12:00 PM. Agreements have also been made to increase the irregular hours allowance to 72% from 8:00 PM on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. The internship allowance will increase to € 500 per month.
