Lithuania - Parliament strengthens collective bargaining and strike rules - June 30, 2026
The Seimas (Parliament) has granted collective agreements more powers, simplified the procedure for declaring a strike and tightened the obligations of employers regarding striking employees. The Parliament adopted the amendments to the Labour Code that provide for this. The amendments still need to be signed by the president, and they would enter into force on 1 November. According to the amendments, employers will not be able to worsen the working conditions of striking employees for three months after the end of the strike without first informing the trade union, and they are prohibited from encouraging employees not to strike in any way. The warning strike time is being doubled – it will be able to last no longer than four hours instead of two.
