Liechtenstein - Cross-border unions call for shorter working week with full pay - September 30, 2026
On 7 September in Gamprin-Bendern, the Interregional Trade Union Council (IGR) Lake Constance presented 14 joint demands on the future of work. The council brings together unions from Liechtenstein, Austria, Germany and Switzerland. The central question was how much people should work in future, and who benefits when digitalisation, automation and artificial intelligence make work more efficient. A key demand is a gradual reduction of the working week with full pay. The IGR also calls for a "right to be unreachable" outside working hours and for mandatory recording of the hours actually worked. For LANV union, mandatory time recording is a priority, partly to check compliance with health and safety rules. LANV also wants a right to part-time work from age 60, to allow a more flexible transition into retirement.
