Latvia - Pay freeze for senior public officials - September 30, 2026
On 22 September, the Prime Minister announced that he had signed an order to freeze pay next year for a range of public administration staff. The freeze covers officials whose base monthly salary is set each year using a fixed coefficient, including the prime minister, ministers, members of the Saeima (parliament) and other senior officials. He presented it as one of the steps that can immediately reduce state spending. According to the State Chancellery, the budget law capped the indexation of these salaries at 2.6% for 2025, and it was set at 0% for 2026. A further freeze means these salaries will stay at their 2025 level in 2027.
