Latvia - Labour-law reform debate intensifies - February 28, 2026
Intensive discussions are taking place in the Parliament and among social partners regarding extensive amendments to the Labour Law. Although the Ministry of Welfare has developed a compromise version, the latest information indicates that the debate has gained new momentum. The Free Trade Union Confederation of Latvia (LBAS) has approached the Parliament with strong objections to several proposals crucial for employees. The amendments include options for a four-day work week and revised overtime pay arrangements, while unions insist that reforms must strengthen worker protection and collective bargaining rights.
