Latvia - Government proposes raising minimum wage to € 835 - August 31, 2026

The Ministry of Welfare proposes raising the minimum monthly wage to € 835 from 2027 — a 7% (€ 55) increase from the current € 780, calculated to keep the minimum wage at 46% of the average gross salary. Around 17.1% of the workforce earned minimum wage or less last year. The country’s minimum wage remains the EU's second-lowest, far below the neighbouring countries Lithuania (€ 1,153) and Estonia (€ 946). The Free Trade Union Confederation of Latvia (LBAS) backed the € 835 proposal and additionally called for reviewing tax allowances for dependents to support low-income families.
