Latvia - Disagreement on minimum wage - May 31, 2026
The social partners discussed the issue of changes in the minimum wage at the regular tripartite NTSP Budget and Tax Policy Sub-Council. The Latvian Confederation of Free Trade Unions (LBAS) maintained its previously expressed position that the minimum wage should be raised more rapidly, as envisaged by the timetable set by the Finance Ministry, raising the minimum wage to € 835 per month in 2027 instead of the previously planned € 820. LBAS also emphasized that at the same time as the minimum wage, the non-taxable minimum should also be raised to € 600 per month, thus ensuring a proportional increase in the non-taxable minimum. The social partners agreed that the negotiations would continue and the Ministry of Finance would prepare an impact analysis for different scenarios.
