Italy - Unions demand renewal of collective agreements in private care sector - August 31, 2026

Unions FP CGIL, CISL FP and UIL FP held a national protest outside the Ministry of Health in Rome on 24 July, demanding the renewal of collective agreements covering more than 300,000 workers in private healthcare and residential care facilities. The private healthcare agreement had remained unrenewed for eight years, while workers in residential care had waited 14 years. Following a meeting with the Ministry during the protest, the unions reported that they had received no guarantees that additional public funding would be linked to contract renewals. They warned that a forthcoming decree was expected to provide approximately € 1.3 billion to private healthcare providers without requiring them to renew collective agreements or improve working conditions.
