Italy - General strike - May 31, 2026

A 24-hour strike called by several grassroots trade unions, including CUB, SGB, SI Cobas, ADL Varese and USI-CIT, caused disruptions across part of the country, affecting rail services, schools, and hospitals. The unions launched the strike to increase pressure on the Government. Their demands include higher wages, compensation for inflation, and an end to precarious employment practices. The unions also accuse the Government of seeking to restrict the right to strike.
