Italy - Cultural workers on strike - June 30, 2026
Trade unions, cultural workers’ associations and grassroots collectives have called a nationwide general strike across the arts and culture sector for 12 June. The strike is backed by unions including FP CGIL, Nidil CGIL, CUB, ADL Cobas, CLAP and USI-CTS, as well as advocacy groups such as Mi Riconosci?, Art Workers Italy and Biennalocene. Organisers cite precarious employment, low wages — with 69% of cultural workers earning under € 8 an hour — and public investment in the arms industry. The action covers museums, theatres, libraries, archives and archaeological sites nationwide.
