Ireland - Teachers warn of industrial action - April 30, 2026
The largest teachers’ union warned that the government will face "a firestorm of industrial strife" from next autumn unless pay awards to compensate for soaring inflation are granted. The Education Minister was told that pickets could be placed on primary schools by the October mid-term break unless the government immediately honours € 33 million in outstanding pay and allowance awards and agrees to substantial pay hikes in the next national wage agreement to counter the inflationary assault on worker incomes.
