Iceland - Union regrets wage cut for aquaculture workers - January 31, 2026
The board of the Westfjords Labour Union says it regrets the decision by management at Arnarlax and Arctic Fish to cut the wages of employees in aquaculture. The decision to reduce wages was reportedly announced to staff earlier this month and is set to take effect on 1 May. The declaration notes that one of the arguments supporting the development of aquaculture in the country has been that the industry creates valuable jobs in rural areas at a time when communities outside the capital region have experienced continuous contraction and cutbacks, with corresponding reductions in services and population decline.
