Iceland - Aircraft mechanics’ strike called off as Government prepares law - September 30, 2026
Icelandair aircraft mechanics began a strike at midnight on 23 September, but the Icelandic Aircraft Mechanics' Association (FVFÍ) called it off around midday. It had led to the cancellation of 26 international and five domestic flights, affecting about 5,500 passengers. That morning, the cabinet approved a bill to postpone the strike, and the Infrastructure Minister announced he would submit it to Parliament the same day. The union and Icelandair then agreed that the strike would be withdrawn and that both sides would hold four weeks of negotiations under the state mediator. The mechanics' collective agreement expired around the turn of the year.
