Hungary - Furniture retailer offers lump-sum payment to end strike wave - August 31, 2026

After a series of strikes beginning 9 July 2026 — including a full walkout on 15–16 July at all locations in the country — furniture retailer IKEA proposed a one-off lump-sum payment to settle a pay dispute with the Commercial Employees’ Trade Union (KASZ). KASZ had presented a five-point demand package; management accepted four points but rejected a 6% base-wage increase, offering instead a roughly 100,000-forint (€ 270) one-off payment that would not become part of base pay. The union called it “an understandable, visible sum” worth putting to members. Both sides agreed to resume wage talks in December.
