Hungary - Agreed minimum wage rise likely to be revised - September 30, 2026
On 25 September, the tripartite Permanent Consultative Forum of the Competitive Sector and the Government (VKF) held a first, "warm-up" meeting on the 2027 minimum wage. Under the three-year wage agreement of 2024, the minimum wage should rise by 14% in 2027. But growth, inflation and wage indicators have fallen short of the agreed targets, with GDP growth alone 2.6 percentage points below forecast. "We expect the parties to renegotiate the size of the increase," said a representative of the National Federation of Workers’ Councils (MOSZ). The union is hoping for the promised cut in personal income tax on the minimum wage from 15% to 9%. The Social and Family Affairs Minister said the agreement must be reviewed. The representative of employers’ organization MGYOSZ said earlier that he rules out double-digit increases and sees about 6% as realistic.
