Greece - Union protest against constitutional revision - September 30, 2026
The civil servants' confederation ADEDY called a work stoppage across the Attica region on 16 September and a rally at Syntagma Square in Athens. That day, Parliament held its second vote on the Government's proposed constitutional revision. ADEDY opposes changes to three articles. It says the change to Article 103 opens the way to ending permanent tenure for civil servants and ties their employment to the new appraisal system and disciplinary framework. It argues that the change to Article 79 would enshrine fiscal limits in the constitution, acting as a permanent brake on wages, pensions and social benefits. It also fears that the change to Article 16 threatens free public education. ADEDY said the Prime Minister's announcements at the Thessaloniki Fair do not meet public-sector workers' demands and announced an escalation of its actions. Its demands include stable employment and real pay rises.
