Greece - Taxi drivers launch permanent strike - March 31, 2026
Taxi drivers went on a permanent strike on 17 March 2026. The nationwide strike aims to protest the new bill of the Transport Ministry. The Panhellenic Federation of Taxi Drivers (POIATA) announced the strike after an extraordinary meeting of its Board of Directors in collaboration with local unions. The strike began with a 24-hour work stoppage on 17 March, the day the bill was introduced in the parliamentary committee, and will continue with repeated 24-hour strikes until the bill is passed. Taxi drivers especially oppose the new bill of the Ministry of Transport concerning the electric propulsion of commercial vehicles, the judicial criminal record and special operating licenses.
