Greece - Prime minister promises minimum wage of € 1,000 by 2028 - September 30, 2026
At the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) on 5 September, the Prime Minister presented a broad package of tax cuts, income support, housing measures and pay rises, which he called a "pact for progress and prosperity". The package includes raising the minimum wage to € 1,000 by January 2028. Civil servants will receive a € 500 gross Christmas bonus from December 2027, and all pensioners over 65 will get a permanent annual support payment of € 400 net from 2026. While he spoke, thousands of people, including trade unions and farmers, protested against the high cost of living. The president of the largest union confederation GSEE said wages are low and prices are soaring, making affordability the most serious problem.
