Germany - New agreements for broadcasting corporations - September 30, 2026

A collective agreement has been reached at broadcasting corporation Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR). With this, the unions ver.di, the German Journalists' Association (DJV), and unisono have secured agreements with the four largest ARD broadcasting corporations. Settlements had previously been reached at SWR, BR, and WDR. The agreements provide for improved salaries and fees for permanent staff, freelance workers with employee-like status, and apprentices. Across the four rounds of negotiations, pay increases of up to 5.8% were achieved over a term of 35 months. The unions attribute this outcome in part to intensive warning strikes, which totalled ten days of industrial action. Collective negotiations with other state-level public broadcasters are scheduled for the coming weeks.
