Germany - Agreement for textile industry - April 30, 2026
Following intensive negotiations and significant pressure from the companies, the IG Metall union has reached a viable agreement for the textile industry in the eastern part of the country. Employees broke the deadlock in the negotiations with warning strikes. After three rounds of negotiations, IG Metall and employers agreed on a term of 18 months. Employees will receive a one-off payment of € 350 in July 2026. Wages will increase by 2.2% in November 2026, with a further increase of 2.3% in June 2027. Apprentices’ compensation will increase by € 80 in August 2026 and by a further € 70 in August 2027. Another important component of the agreement is the extension of the collectively agreed partial retirement scheme.
