France - Unions demand pay rise - May 31, 2026
Labour Day marches across the country focused on wages, workers’ rights and the future of the 1 May public holiday, as unions pushed for higher pay, bakers and florists opened despite legal uncertainty and clashes broke out in Lyon and Nantes. The leader of CGT union called for a 5% rise in the minimum wage and for salaries to be linked to prices.
