France - Energy workers strike - September 30, 2026
On 15 September, all representative union federations in the electricity and gas industries (IEG) called a strike across EDF, Enedis, RTE, Engie and other companies against the planned revision of the "tarif agent". This benefit gives employees and retirees heavily discounted electricity and gas. In a report published on 17 July 2026, the Court of Auditors (Cour des comptes) called the cost EDF pays to secure staff motivation and social peace through the scheme "excessive". The Government says it does not want to abolish the tariff but to increase how much of it is taxed, and says the change will require social dialogue and time. The unions, however, consider the benefit non-negotiable.
