France - Education strike - February 28, 2026
A coalition of unions in the Île-de-France region has called on national education staff to strike on 17 February 2026. Announced the day after the National Assembly adopted the 2026 budget on 27 January the elimination of 3,256 teaching positions in 2026 has not gone down well with unions in the Île-de-France region. 1,891 cuts are planned for primary schools and 1,365 for secondary schools for the start of the new school year. A regional coalition of unions has called on staff to demonstrate at the Ministry of National Education on 17 February.
