Finland - Union criticizes employment contracts act - May 31, 2026
Parliament approved the contents of the draft amendment to the Employment Contracts Act in its first reading. According to union confederation SAK, the draft weakens employees’ employment security and equality in working life. SAK considers the amendment to the law so harmful that it should either be rejected in Parliament's second reading or, at the latest, revoked by the next Government. The Government allows unjustified fixed-term employment contracts for a maximum of one year, despite opposition from central organisations and trade unions representing employees, women's organisations of parliamentary parties and the opposition.
