Finland - New guideline to assess what a job is worth - September 30, 2026
The Ministry of Social Affairs and Health presented new guidelines for assessing what a job is worth, meant to rely less on gut feeling and more on a clear system. The model evaluates jobs on six criteria: skills, responsibility and impact, interaction, problem solving and independence, psychosocial demands and physical demands. The aim is to identify jobs that are equally demanding even when their daily work looks very different and then compare how they are paid. This could challenge old assumptions about "men's" and "women's" work. The model is linked to the EU Pay Transparency Directive. The model is voluntary. Implementation of the EU directive has been delayed by disagreements between employers and unions, and the new rules are now expected around the start of 2027.
