EU Sources - Retirement ages set to rise - August 31, 2026
Retirement ages would rise in most European countries over the coming decades if current pension legislation remained in place, according to OECD calculations covering 32 countries. Across the EU, the normal retirement age would increase from 64.7 to 66.7 for men and from 64 to 66.6 for women. The OECD compared workers retiring in 2024 with people entering the labour market at the age of 22 that year. Denmark would have Europe’s highest retirement age, at 74. Retirement ages would reach 71 in Estonia and 70 in Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden and Cyprus.
