EU Sources - Report highlights collective bargaining pressures - May 31, 2026

The ‘Benchmarking Working Europe 2026’ report by the ETUI and ETUC warns that Europe’s strategic autonomy is threatened by weak investment, labour market pressures, and strained social safety nets. The report highlights slowing growth, declining manufacturing jobs, stalled decarbonization, and household budgets squeezed by soaring housing, transport, and service costs. Crucially, despite recent hikes, real wages in many countries still lag behind pre-pandemic levels. These factors are fuelling tensions across sectors, directly impacting collective bargaining over pay, staffing, and working conditions.
