EU Sources - EU must change course to meet social goals - August 31, 2026

The absence of any real progress being made towards Europe’s social goals shows the need for new investment and rights at work, especially in light of new challenges like artificial intelligence, the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) says. The European Commission published a report on member states’ progress towards the objectives set for 2030 under the European Pillar of Social Rights. Among others, it showed that only 39.5% of people were able to participate in training compared to the target of 60%; and Europe is not on track to meet its target of lifting 15 million people out of poverty. ETUC says that is why the Commission must deliver more ambitious measures in its Quality Jobs Act, and investment through the next long-term budget, to protect and create quality jobs.
