Estonia - Ferry workers on strike - August 31, 2026

The Seafarers’ Union (EMSA) and small islands ferry operator Kihnu Veeteed failed to reach an agreement on a wage increase for ship crews even with the help of a national mediator. The wage dispute that has been going on since spring ended with a warning strike by ship workers on Kihnu and Vormsi at the end of July, and if a compromise is not reached, it could lead to a longer strike. EMSA has been trying to reach an agreement on a collective agreement for ship workers and a 20% to 30% increase in basic wages with Kihnu Veeteed since March. However, there has been no agreement yet – even with the help of a national mediator.
