Czechia - Union warns against weakening platform workers’ protection - May 31, 2026
ČMKOS union confederation warned during a parliamentary seminar that the proposed regulation of platform work could weaken employment protection and legalise disguised self-employment. The seminar discussed implementation of the EU platform-work directive and the position of couriers and other app-managed workers. ČMKOS chair argued that platforms should adapt to labour law, not the other way round. The confederation opposed opening up the definition of dependent work, warning that workers reclassified as self-employed could lose minimum wage protection, paid leave, sickness coverage, working time limits, supplements and accident protection.
