Czechia - Strike of television and radio staff - June 30, 2026

Employees of Czech Television and Czech Radio went on strike on 22 June. The Government has approved a proposal that is to abolish television and radio fees from 2027 and transfer the financing of Czech Television and Czech Radio to the state budget. However, the proposed amounts are significantly lower than the current income of both media outlets. According to employees and management, the result will be a reduction in production and regional broadcasting, as well as the dismissal of up to seven hundred employees. Czech Radio talks about 150 to 200 employees and possible reductions in the regional network.
