Cyprus - Public service workers announce strike 5 - August 31, 2026

Trade unions representing hourly paid public-sector workers announced a 24-hour nationwide strike for 17 September unless the Government submitted an acceptable proposal for a new collective agreement. The decision was taken unanimously on 5 August by the governing bodies of PASYEK–PEO, OEKDY–SEK and DEEK–KDOK–DEOK. The unions rejected the Government’s proposal for the 2025–2027 collective agreement, arguing that it failed to address persistent low pay and included no general wage increases. The unions said the Government had delayed negotiations for around 14 months despite the growing pressure on workers’ incomes.
