Croatia - Public sector unions sharply criticize Government - May 31, 2026

The Independent Union of Science and Higher Education commented on the proposed anti-inflationary measures by the Government, stating that "the Government has no idea what to do with inflation" and decided to "fight against economic growth and the rise of citizens' standards, expecting that this could have an impact on prices." The union believes that public service employees already have a target on their backs. In the first four months of this year, the cumulative inflation is 4%, and the growth of their basis for calculating wages is 1%, the union notes, adding that by the end of the year, this difference could significantly worsen.
