Croatia - Medical union demands higher hourly pay - August 31, 2026
The Croatian Medical Union (HLS) said on 12 August 2026 that it wants the Government to change how hourly pay is calculated for hospital doctors, arguing current rules and inconsistent regulations shortchange staff — especially those whose overtime effectively keeps the health system running. The union said it will pursue legal action and appeal to the European Commission if no agreement is reached with the relevant ministries. The Health Ministry responded that it sees no problem with the existing pay calculation, saying it follows the same Salaries Act applied across other public services.
