Croatia - Judicial police union calls for adoption of new law - May 31, 2026
On 19 May 2026, the Croatian Judicial Police Union (SPPH) issued a statement warning that prison police officers were still working without a specific legal framework defining their rights, duties, powers and job characteristics. Despite promises, the Law on Judicial Police still does not exist. Instead of legally recognizing the specificity, gravity and danger of this extremely stressful calling, judicial police officers continue to be pushed to the margins. The adoption of the Draft Law on Judicial Police is being deliberately delayed, with constant changes to the name of the law, the composition of the committee, the dates of the committee meetings, etc.
