Bulgaria - New pay transparency rules - May 31, 2026

Employees will soon have the legal right to request official information about average salaries for their job position within their company under new amendments to the country’s anti-discrimination legislation. The urgent changes to the Commission for Protection Against Discrimination framework are intended to implement the European Union directive aimed at increasing pay transparency and ensuring equal pay between men and women. Under the proposed rules, which are expected to take effect on 7 June 2026, any employee will be able to submit a written request to their employer for information regarding average pay levels by position and gender.
