Belgium - Social partners oppose scrapping eco-vouchers - September 30, 2026
The federal Government is considering simplifying the various voucher schemes for employees, including a gradual phase-out of eco-vouchers and sport and culture vouchers. The National Labour Council (NAR/CNT) issued a unanimous opinion that eco-vouchers should be kept. Eco-vouchers came out of negotiations between unions and employer organisations for the 2009-2010 interprofessional agreement, and the social partners have adjusted and modernised them regularly since then. The Council argues that abolishing them would undermine a mechanism the social partners have built and managed for years, and would directly affect a very large number of workers at a time when the cost of living remains a major concern.
