Belgium - Nationwide strike - March 31, 2026

A major 24-hour general strike took place on 12 March 2026, organised by unions FGTB/ABVV, CSC/ACV and CGSLB/ACLVB. The action protested against stalled wage-indexation negotiations and planned pension reforms. Airports in Brussels and Charleroi suspended flights, while public transport was severely disrupted. Unions argued that reforms by the Government threaten purchasing power and labour conditions, while employers warned of economic damage. Among their list of demands, protesters are calling for job security, better working conditions, more space for "genuine labour negotiations", and improved pension schemes.
