Austria - Difficult negotiations in industry - April 30, 2026
Since March, GPA and PRO-GE unions have been negotiating collective agreements for some of the country's largest and most important industrial sectors in the spring round of talks, including the chemical industry, the electrical and electronics industry, the glass industry, the paper industry, and the textile industry. The focus of the negotiations is on wages, primarily on permanent increases in pay and salaries. This spring's negotiations are proving very difficult. The third round of talks for the approximately 50,000 employees in the chemical industry was broken off after four hours following an offer from the employers in the form of a one-off payment of € 250. For the GPA and PRO-GE unions, this offer is not only unacceptable but an absolute affront to the employees.
