The country has been formally found in breach of international labour standards on unfair dismissal by the European Committee of Social Rights (ECSR), but the Government has yet to act. The ECSR ruled – in response to separate complaints by both unions – that the severance pay rules do not offer adequate compensation or real protection against unfair dismissal. However, the unions say no meaningful changes have followed.
