Slovenia - Union fights for job preservation - December 31, 2025
A workplace conflict at automotive supplier Mahle’s plant in Šempeter pri Gorici put the union confederation ZSSS in the spotlight, as the metal and electrical workers’ union (SKEI) sought to prevent job losses linked to relocating alternator production to Bosnia and Herzegovina. ZSSS reported that the union and works council intensified negotiations with the employer and briefly “unfroze” strike activity, interrupting production before pausing the strike again after a few hours on 10 December. The key bargaining issue was job preservation: the union challenged the relocation rationale and demanded safeguards for workers.
