Romania - Protest against austerity measures - November 30, 2025
Thousands rallied in Bucharest to protest against planned austerity measures as the country struggles with a soaring budget deficit of more than 9% of GDP. The protest was organized by the National Trade Union Bloc, a coalition of professional unions, which took to the streets to voice discontent over the Government’s plan to raise taxes, cut thousands of public sector jobs, and freeze pensions. The Government has announced plans to cut around 10% of administrative jobs. Unions are also calling for an increase in the national minimum wage, a withdrawal from budget reforms based on salary and job cuts, and stronger measures to curb systemic tax evasion in the country.
